JAKARTA - Said Aqil Siradj was appointed as the main commissioner of PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI (Persero) and concurrently as an independent commissioner replacing Jusman Syafii Djamal. This appointment was made directly by BUMN Minister Erick Thohir.

The appointment of Said Aqil as the KAI commut was based on a copy of the Decree of the Minister of BUMN Number SK-64 / MBU / 03/2021.

Special Staff to Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir, Arya Sinulingga, spoke about the appointment of the Chairman of PBNU Said Aqil Siradj. According to him, the reason for the appointment was because Said Aqil had a lot of experience in business management.

"So Kiai Said Aqil is also the ICDX commissioner of commodities and derivatives, so he already has a lot of experience in business management and as a commissioner," he told reporters, Wednesday, March 3.

With his background, said Arya, Said Aqil would understand how a company market operates and so on. This is a consideration in the appointment.

"That's the main thing for us that he had experience as a commissioner and commissioner," he said.

Another reason, said Arya, is that the Ministry of BUMN and state-owned companies, in this case KAI, really need a community leader like Said Aqil.

"So that later we will further help our BUMNs. So he can build national values in BUMN because he is also a great scholar," he said.

Previously, the news regarding Said Aqil's appointment was confirmed by Riza Primadi who was also appointed as the commissioner of the state-owned company.

"That's right, Said Aqil Siradj as the President Commissioner of KAI and concurrently an Independent Commissioner," he said, when contacted by VOI, Wednesday, March 3.

Based on the change in the composition of the Board of Commissioners of PT KAI that VOI received, apart from Said, Erick also appointed several other people. First, Riza Primadi was appointed as an independent commissioner.

Second, Rochadi, who occupies the position of independent commissioner. Then, third, Diah Nataliza became a commissioner. Finally, Chairul Anwar was appointed as the company commissioner.

Riza said that Erick Thohir also retained several names on the old board of commissioners. They are, Pungky Sumadi, Criss Kuntadi and Freddy Haris. Erick also did not change the position of the board of directors.

Said Aqil was born in Cirebon on July 3, 1953. Said is the son of the caretaker of the Kempek Aqil Siradj Islamic Boarding School who is the son of Kiai Siradj, who is still a descendant of Kiai Muhammad Said Gedongan. He grew up in the tradition and culture of the pesantren.

Said studied SMA or Aliyah at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, Kediri, East Java, which was founded by KH. Abdul Karim (Mbah Manaf).

Then, Said continued his education at Tribakti University, which is located close to the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School.

In 1980, Said and his wife, Nurhayati, moved to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. There he studied at King Abdul Aziz and Ummul Qurra Universities, from undergraduate to doctoral degrees. He managed to get a doctorate degree from Umm al-Qura University, Makkah, majoring in Aqidah / Islamic Philosophy in 1994.

The company was founded by Megain Widjaja, the grandson of a prominent Indonesian conglomerate founder of the Sinarmas business group, Eka Tjipta Widjaja. Currently Megain Widjaja serves as a director, and holds a key position as a member of the startup committee at ICDX.

Said Aqil is also included in the list of the top 50 Muslims in the World's 500 Most Influential Muslims in 2021 published by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center (RISSC), an independent research institute affiliated with the Kingdom's Aal Al Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, headquartered in Amman, Jordan.

There are three Indonesians who entered The Top 50, namely President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Chairman of PBNU Said Aqil Siradj, and ulama / member of Wantimpres Habib Luthfi bin Yahya.

President Jokowi ranks 12th. In the previous year, Jokowi was ranked 13th. Meanwhile, Said Aqil was in 18th position and Habib Lutfi was in 32nd position.
