YOGYAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia will hold Simultaneous 2024 regional head elections (Pilkada) in 37 provinces in Indonesia minus the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Hasyim Asy'ari explained that the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections were only attended by 37 out of 38 provinces, because the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) did not carry out direct regional elections.
"For the election of governors (conducted) in 37 provinces, if DIY does not go through direct regional elections," said Hasyim to media crews in the Prambanan Temple area, Sleman, Yogyakarta DI, Sunday, March 31 evening.
It is known that Yogyakarta has special regulations that are only owned by several other regions in Indonesia. This is stated in Law Number 13 of 2012 concerning the Privileges of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
In the law, there are rules regarding the appointment of governors and deputy governors of DIY who are not elected through general elections, but through the inauguration process.
Then, of the 514 regencies/cities, only 508 regencies/cities held the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections. This is because there are 6 administrative districts/cities in DKI Jakarta that do not have direct regional elections.
