Archbishop Of Jakarta: TIP Crime Can Only Be Overcome Through International Cooperation
JAKARTA - Jakarta Archdiocese Bishop Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo said that handling the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) requires international cooperation.
This was conveyed by Suharyo at a press conference commemorating Easter 2024 at the Cathedral Church, Jakarta, Sunday, responding to the case of universities involved in TIP with the mode of internship programs for students to Germany orferienjob.
"Regarding TIP, when it comes to countries like Germany, it's very surprising. In the church environment there is a movement or international organization called Talitha Kum, which is in the organization that handles the trafficking of people and is often invited here (Cadral Church) to be asked to tell stories," he said, quoted by Antara.
He explained that among the Jesus Union or commonly known as the Yesuit, there was also the Yesuit Refugee Service to help deal with the TIP case.
"Because the refugees who came from Srilanka were also related to the trafficking of people, apparently, they were told to pay for this and that," he said.
He stated previously that the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Marshal TNI (Ret.) Hadi Tjahjanto had also directly checked security at the Jakarta Cathedral Church, which started a series of Easter tri holy days on Thursday (28/3).
"The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs came here yesterday and coordinated with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Education and Technology, the Police, and other parties, to be taken care of. Indeed, I see that it is very tempting for the person's trade, in Asia its assets are up to Rp. 2,500 trillion," he said.

According to him, the TIP originated from the greed of mankind who wanted greater profits regardless of your own brother.
"It's back to greed again, until it trades people and their own brothers and sisters," said Suharyo.
The Cathedral Church carries the theme Easter 2024, namely "Solidarity and Subsidiarity to Achieve Joint Welfare" which invites all Catholics to rise with Christ and dare to change themselves.
