Customer Data Leaks, AT&T Retails 7.6 Million Customer Account Passwords
JAKARTA - The telecommunications company AT&T claims to have reset millions of its code, after 7.6 million customer data and 65.4 million former subscribers' data were allegedly leaked and spread online.
We are aware that a number of AT&T passwords have been compromised. We reached 7.6 million affected subscribers and have reset their codewords," the company wrote in its official statement.
The code reset action came after the company received a report from TechCrunch informing it of its security code vulnerability last Monday.
This data leak has actually been discovered around 2021, where hackers only posted a few data samples from AT&T, making it difficult to check the accuracy of the data.
However, in March, data sellers published 73 million data allegedly belonging to AT&T online in cybercrime forums, so TechCrunch conducted an independent analysis to find more detailed data regarding the data leak.
AT&T customers have also confirmed that their leaked account data is accurate.
The leaked data includes the names of AT&T customers, home addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, and Social Security numbers.
After resetting the code, AT&T promised to communicate with current and previous account holders who have sensitive personal information that has been compromised.
Our internal team is working with external cybersecurity experts to analyze the situation. To our knowledge, the compromised data appears to date back to 2019 or earlier and does not contain personal financial information or a history of calls, "explained the company further.
For this reason, they urge customers to remain vigilant by monitoring account activities and credit reports.
