Sandiaga Calls The Film Sector A Positive Impact On Jobs

BATAM - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the film sector in Indonesia had a positive impact on business opportunities and employment.

Last year, the number of viewers of Indonesian films set a new record, reaching 55 million viewers.

"Indonesia has hosted it in its own country, and if we look at it last year, the number of Indonesian film viewers has crossed the 55 million mark. This is a record. And this year it is predicted that it will be even higher," Sandiaga said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, March 31.

He said, in the last three months, several films of Indonesian children have reached more than 1 million viewers.

One of the biggest attractions in the film sector today is the film "Agak Laen" which has reached more than 9 million viewers.

Previously, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno revealed that the Indonesian film industry could raise the genre or flow of drama, horror and comedy (drahorkom) as a characteristic in strengthening Indonesian films.

"Drahor, a horror drama. We are really strong. And if the film 'Agap Laen' can raise comedy, maybe we can become a dramakom. Drama, horror, comedy that can be a special genre (Indonesian film)," he said at a weekly press conference held in Jakarta.

He also projects that the economic value of film creative economy sub-sectors will be able to contribute 7.5-8 percent of last year's creative economy achievement which was recorded at IDR 1,414 trillion.

"Ekraf added Rp1,414 trillion last year. This year we hope that the film sub-sector will increase the number of contributions from the share of creative development to our GDP, so there will be a total of 7.5-8 percent," he also said.
