DPR RI-Swedish Parliament Agrees To Respect Diversity And Realize Peace

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon conveyed the importance of respecting diversity and tolerance for realizing peace.

Fadli condemned various acts of terror and hatred of certain religions, such as the phenomenon of Islamophobia that occurred in several European countries, including the burning of the Qur'an and the insult to the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

This was conveyed by Fadli in a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Swedish Parliament chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Kerstin Lundgren on the sidelines of the World Parliament session entitled the 148th Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPU) on 23-28 March 2024.

"This clearly injures the value of humanity and makes efforts to realize world peace through tolerance between religious believers," he said in a written statement.

At that moment, the Swedish Parliament also condemned actions on behalf of certain identities and insulted religion and religious symbols and identities.

Lundgren emphasized Sweden's commitment as a country that respects diversity and respects religious communities.

In an unstable global situation, he said, collective efforts are needed to realize peace, including by respecting diversity and prioritizing dialogue in resolving conflicts.

In addition, the Indonesian House of Representatives also emphasized Indonesia's support for Palestinian independence and opposed Israel's brutal actions, including decades-old occupations and attacks that befell thousands of Palestinian civilians, especially women and children.

As the first EU country to support Palestine as a country, Sweden has pushed for a two-state solution to end the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
