Alleged Bribery At The Directorate General Of Taxes, Sri Mulyani: This Is A Despicable Act, We Fully Support The KPK To Investigate It Thoroughly

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani gave an official statement regarding the alleged receipt of bribes by individuals within the Directorate General of Taxes.

In his statement, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani said that the act involved unscrupulous employees at the Directorate General of Taxes. In addition, he also said that the alleged bribery case also took the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate.

"The Ministry of Finance appreciates and appreciates and fully supports the steps taken by the KPK, which is also accompanied by an internal compliance unit within the Ministry of Finance that has collaborated," he said in a virtual press statement, Wednesday, March 3.

Minister of Finance added that this case is a development from the findings of last year which were developed together with anti-rasuah institutions.

"The alleged bribery case occurred in early 2020, then an action was taken by the internal compliance unit of the Ministry of Finance and the KPK," he said.

Although he is certain that this case is an act against the law, Sri Mulyani adheres to the presumption of innocence.

"We at the Ministry of Finance respect the legal process that is being carried out by the KPK to be able to resolve suspected bribery committed by employees of the Directorate General of Taxes while still adhering to the principle of presumption of innocence," he said.

"The Ministry of Finance does not tolerate acts of corruption and violations of the code of ethics committed by all or by anyone within the Ministry of Finance employees," said the Minister of Finance. Furthermore, the former IMF boss hopes that action according to the applicable law is expected to be a lesson for whom. even so as not to imitate that despicable act.

"We hope that the decisive steps taken by the KPK will not have a negative impact on the performance of the Directorate General of Taxes organization regarding the alleged bribery involving employees of the Directorate General of Taxes. This incident is clearly a betrayal and has hurt the feelings of all employees both at the Directorate General of Taxes and all levels of the Ministry of Finance throughout Indonesia, "he explained.
