Bringing Goods Overseas Must Report Customs, Sri Mulyani Opens Voice

JAKARTA - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati opened her voice regarding the rules for reporting luggage abroad that must be reported to Customs and Excise. So that currently it creates various negative perceptions of the community.

"We are grateful to the public's feedback on the policies carried out," Sri Mulyani said at a press conference on our State Budget for the March 15, 2024 period, at the Office of the Ministry of Finance, Monday, March 25, 2024.

Meanwhile, the reporting provisions have actually been regulated for a long time in the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 2023/PMK.04/2017 concerning Export and Import Provisions for Goods brought by Passengers and Transportation Facilities.

According to Sri Mulyani, the policy aims to facilitate services for passengers who bring certain goods abroad which will then be brought back to Indonesia. However, at this time it has caused a commotion in the community because many have misinterpreted the meaning of these provisions.

"Actually, the goal is to make it easier but the communication needs to be simplified and clarified, so as not to cause various reactions which are then troubling," he explained.

Therefore, Sri Mulyani asked the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) and other relevant agencies to be more massive in conducting socialization regarding these provisions so that the public could understand that the policy did not apply to all passengers.

"Earlier, I asked the DJBC (Directorate General of Customs and Excise) for friends of overseas event activities that many goods including MSMEs who carry out exhibitions often have implications for bringing goods to Indonesia, the purpose of PMK is actually to be further straightened out and clarified so as not to make Indonesia outliers," he said.
