Nikita Mirzani: Do Not Delete The ITE Law, Netizens Will Turn To Barbarians
JAKARTA - The Research Team for the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE) collects input from sources who have worked as reporters and reported parties. One of the speakers, artist Nikita Mirzani, asked that the ITE Law regulations not be abolished.
This was conveyed by Nikita when she was invited by the online study team as the party that had reported other people with the ITE Law on Tuesday, March 2 yesterday.
"Don't erase the ITE Law, if it is deleted later the barbarian netizens will be awkward," said Nikita as quoted from the written statement by the ITE Law Study Team, Wednesday, March 3.
The General Chairman of Cyber Indonesia Muanas Alaidid also expressed the same concern. As a resource for the reporting party, he asked the government to be careful in revising a number of articles in the ITE Law so that new problems would not arise.
"I think the first point is not to let the good intentions of the revision of the ITE Law, for example in Article 27 paragraph 3 which was accused of being a rubber article, was later deleted and our social media even blasphemed each other. If the problem is not reported later. Good article 27 paragraph 3. Article 28 paragraph 2 ITE. So I think we have to be careful in the matter of revising the ITE Law, "said Muannas.
Meanwhile, from the reported party, activist Ravio Patra, who was charged with the ITE Law, actually considered the opposite. He said, a law should create order, not create chaos in the community.
"I am being said, slandered as being a foreign spy for a country. If I react by reporting a lot of people, in the end one country is imprisoned," he said in the discussion.
Patra shared her experience dealing with the police when it was reported in relation to the ITE Law. For him, this rule is a form of restriction on civil liberties, so he wants this law to be abolished.
"I want it to be removed, but because I also understand there is a need, because I also admit that I understand that globally many countries are still learning to regulate the internet medium. But what happens in Indonesia is too fast, too violent, no moderation, excessive response," he said .
With a variety of input from the speakers presented, Sugeng Purnomo, Head of the ITE Law Revision Team, hopes that the existing input can be used as material in the team discussion. As for the next discussion, between sub-team I and sub-team II will be held next week.
"I hope ladies and gentlemen who are included in sub-team 1 and sub-team 2 to take advantage of the available time while we are waiting for the next activity. This can be used to hold discussions related to various inputs, suggestions, views from various sources from the first to the third session this afternoon, "Sugeng explained.
In addition to conducting further discussions, the next team will collect suggestions and input from activist groups, civil society, practitioners and press associations.
As previously reported, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has formed a team to study the ITE Law. The team was divided into two, namely Sub-Team I, which formulated implementative criteria for certain articles in the ITE Law which often led to multiple interpretations.
Meanwhile, Sub-Team II will conduct a review of the substance of the ITE Law on several articles in the Law which are considered multiple interpretations to determine whether revisions are necessary.
