Fadli Zon Proposes Resolution Through Ceasefire And Urges Israel To Obey International Law At Global Forum

Jakarta - The world has condemned and witnessed Israeli atrocities that continue to attack hospitals, refugee camps, and take the lives of civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the month of Ramadan. With this they have violated international law and moreover, tarnished human principles.

Responding to this, the Chairman of the BKSAP (Inter-Parliamentary Agency) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Fadli Zon, spoke up in an international forum, calling on Israel to respect international law and stop attacks on innocent citizens in Palestine.

According to Fadli, Indonesia will not stop supporting Palestine in international forums until independence and Palestinian sovereignty are achieved, in accordance with the spirit of the constitution which rejects all forms of colonialism in the world.

At the World Parliament session titled 148th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, March 23-28, 2024, which was attended by 96 parliaments from various countries, Fadli Zon strongly condemned Israel's continued attacks on civilians, especially refugees, most of whom were children, women, and the elderly, in the month of Ramadan. On this occasion, the Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party stated that the Indonesian House of Representatives continues to encourage parliamentary diplomacy to play a real role in realizing peace in Palestine.

Israel's actions that have clearly injured International Humanitarian Law by targeting hospitals, medical workers, and patients who should be protected and not targeted for attacks indicate that the world has lost its sense of humanity. On the one hand, we see big countries trying to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestine, but they still provide weapons and financial support to Israel. To countries that have been supporting Israel, stop applying double standards., said Fadli Zon in a written statement received by VOI from Geneva, March 24, 2024.

The resolution proposal submitted by the DPR RI received support from the parliament of the countries present, especially in forums such as the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). The DPR RI continues to propose a resolution related to Palestine, as has been done at the 147th IPU General Session in Luanda, Angola, and the 146th IPU in Manama, Bahrain, as well as previous IPU sessions.

This is a real commitment of the Indonesian House of Representatives in supporting Palestine and gaining international support through the world parliamentary forum, to jointly urge Israel to stop its brutal and colonial actions in Palestine.
