Champions League Asia 2024 Basketball Qualification Held In Jakarta

The Central Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) has confirmed that the 2024 Asian Champions League Basketball Qualification (BCL) match will be held in Jakarta.

Indonesia is believed to host the qualification with Mongolia. The first round of qualification took place in Ulaanabaatar, Mongolia, on April 3-7, 2024. Meanwhile, the second round was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 23-26, 2024.

Secretary General of Perbasi, Nirmala Dewi, said that previously Surabaya and Bandung had been included in the option of hosting the important qualifying event.

"However, today we have decided on a place in Jakarta. We have also informed FIBA so we just have to have a venue," Nirmala said at a press conference in Jakarta, Saturday, March 23, 2024.

There are three venues that are currently on the list of options for holding the match later. The three places are Indonesia Arena, Istora Senayan, and BritAma Arena Kelapa Gading.

Nirmala said the preparations made by Perbasi so far have been very intense. They are in discussion to make a decision on the venue for the match.

"We see the first possibility (Indonesia Arena). However, there was an internal discussion that first adjusted to the schedule. So, we haven't decided yet, but there is communication for possible use," he said.

In the first round of qualifying later, Prawira Harum Bandung joined Group A with representatives from Malaysia (NS Matrix Deals), Hong Kong (Hong Kong Eastern), and runners-up in Mongolian competitions.

Meanwhile, Pelita Jaya will compete in Group B against representatives of Thailand (Hi-Tech Basketball Club), champions of the Mongolian competition, and Singapore (Adroid Club).

Later, each team in each group will play three matches. Group A and B's first place automatically qualified for the second qualifying round in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, second and third place in each group will meet again cross-legged to compete for tickets to the second qualifying round in Jakarta.

Thus, there are four teams competing in Jakarta to compete for tickets to BCL Asia 2024. The two best will qualify to compete with winning teams in each country, such as South Korea, Japan, China, and the Philippines.
