Meeting The Japanese Ambassador, Minister Basuki Bahas World Water Forum

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono held a meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia HE Masaki Yasushi at the PUPR Ministry office, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 19.

During the meeting, Minister Basuki asked for input from Japan regarding the preparation of the draft Joint Declaration of Ministers in the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May.

"For this reason, in the political process, we ask for your valuable input to support the formulation and formation of the Ministerial Declaration which will be announced and adopted on May 21, 2024 at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali," Basuki said in his official statement, Wednesday, March 20.

Basuki said that previously the Draft Declaration of Ministers had been discussed on January 22-23, 2024 at the first Preparatory Meeting at UNESCO Paris and would be finalized at the 2nd Preparatory Meeting which is planned to be held at UNESCO Paris on March 28-29, 2024.

On this occasion, Basuki also directly invited the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masaki Yasushi to attend the 10th World Water Forum in Bali later.

Meanwhile, Japan's Ambassador to Indonesia Masaki Yasushi emphasized the importance of the 10th World Water Forum for Japan and said that Japan would actively participate in the forum.

"With this, I also convey the confirmation of the Japanese Minister of Land, Transportation and Infrastructure! Saito will be present at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali," he said.

Furthermore, Basuki also conveyed a number of collaborations that have been established between Indonesia and Japan in the field of PUPR infrastructure.

Some of the collaborations that have been and are being carried out together with the Japanese government include the Sentiong pump project, flood control projects in several rivers in Indonesia, and the Bandung Intra Urban Toll Road Project (BIUTR)-PPP Project.

"One of the strong evidences of bilateral cooperation between the two countries was the visit of Japanese Emperor Naruhito to the Sabo Engineering Center in May 2023 as part of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries," said Minister Basuki.
