Swiss Open 2021: Hafiz / Gloria Stopped By Indian Pair In The First Round
JAKARTA - Indonesian mixed doubles Hafiz Faizal / Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja stopped in the first round of Yonex Swiss Open 2021 after being blocked by Indian pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Ashwini Ponnappa.
At the match that took place at the St Stadium. Jakobshalle Basel, Switzerland, Tuesday night local time or Wednesday morning WIB, which was broadcast live streaming, Hafiz / Gloria were beaten 18-21, 10-21 at the hands of Rankireddy / Ponnappa within 38 minutes.
In the first game, the Indian doubles had already dominated the game and often excelled. Even though Hafiz / Gloria equalized several times, they were unable to conquer the Bollywood country pair and surrendered 18-21.
Entering the second half, Hafiz / Gloria's performance decreased. The pattern of play has not changed, instead the opponent gets so many opportunities to steal points and at the same time Hafiz / Gloria doesn't strengthen the defense.
Often left behind, Hafiz / Gloria were forced to lose a landslide 10-21 and were unable to continue to the second round of this year's Swiss Open.
Based on BWF records, the two pairs have met in two previous tournaments, namely the Hong Kong Open 2017 and Yonex Thailand Open 2021. In the first meeting, Hafiz / Gloria outperformed Rankireddy / Ponnappa.
However, at the last meeting at the Thailand Open last January, the Indian pair retaliated so that both partners bagged one win.
One representative for the Indonesian mixed doubles was also stopped in the first round of the 2021 Swiss Open, namely Adnan Maulana / Mychelle Chrystine Bandaso who surrendered 13-21, 12-21 to the fifth seed from Malaysia Tan Kian Meng / Lai Pei Jing.
Different results were achieved by the pair Rinov Rivaldy / Pitha Haningtyas Mentari who defeated the Dutch representatives, Ties Van Der Lecq / Debora Jille, 21-13, 21-15.
In the second round of the badminton tournament at Super 300 level, Rinov / Pitha will face Rankireddy / Ponnappa.
