This Fastest Automotive Wi-Fi Is Able To Withstand Extreme Temperatures

JAKARTA - LG Innotek has successfully developed a next-generation automotive Wi-Fi module with a larger channel bandwidth, becoming a first in the industrial sector.

This success raises hopes that LG Group affiliates will increase its presence in the in-vehicle communication module market, which has been dominated by Japanese people.

In a statement as reported by Koreatimes, LG Innotek said they had successfully developed a 6E Wi-Fi module that uses 6-gigahertz bandwidth, to provide data transmission speeds that are about three times faster than the existing Wi-Fi 5 module.

With cars using highly sophisticated in-vehicle infotainment systems, providing smooth network speeds is essential. LG Innotek said vehicles with a 6E Wi-Fi module would allow passengers to enjoy high-definition movies and games that run on augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR).

"LG Innotek has successfully developed the world's first 6E Wi-Fi module with advanced radio frequency (RF) technology and antennas. The company has accumulated development capabilities in automotive communications since 2005," the company said.

"Using this experience, LG Innotek has improved the data transmitter performance of the new RF structure and antenna design with minimum communication interference," the statement continued.

LG Innotek claims, the new Wi-Fi module offers increased performance and communication durability. Since its Wi-Fi 6E has a data transmission speed of 1.2 gigabits per second, it only takes 2 milliseconds to connect to the network, which is seven times faster than the current speed, and has no buffering issues when playing high-resolution videos. The 6E Wi-Fi module also allows seamless internet use with multiple connections.

In terms of durability, this product can withstand extreme temperature changes from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius.

"This module is not easily deformed by low temperatures in winter, and can withstand the heat generated by data transmission," said LG Innotek.

LG Innotek targets this product to be marketed in 2022. The target is global automotive component manufacturers in North America, Europe, China and Japan.
