Mercedes-Benz Will Test Apptronic Apollo Humanoid Robot

JAKARTA Apptronics, a humanoid robot developer, signed a cooperation agreement with Mercedes-Benz. Through this partnership, Mercedes-Benzakan uses Apollo, an Apptronic robot.

The German automotive company will assist Apptronik in identifying applications and performance from Apollo. The humanoid robot will support the work of Mercedes-Benz staff at manufacturing facilities.

In addition to helping Apptronics, Mercedes-Benz really wants to explore the use of humanoid robots in the logistics sector. Apollo will be tasked with bringing spare parts to the production line, then these parts will be assembled by humans.

The process of sending this component is referred to as the delivery of assembly equipment. In addition to sending unassembled components, Apollo will also send jinjing bags containing components that have been completed and assembled.

Apollo CEO Jeff Cardenas said that cooperation with Mercedes-Benz is a scenario that is expected since Apollo was created. According to Cardenas, this collaboration could attract more companies in the future.

"Mercedes plans to use robotics to automate some low- and physically challenging manual work, an example of a case that other organizations will see emulate in the months and years to come," explained Cardenas.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz Board of Management member Jörg Burzer revealed that his company wants to build the car that consumers want the most. To maximize the future of automotive production, the presence of Apollo is indispensable.

"We want to understand the potential of robotics and automotive manufacturing to fill out labor gaps in areas such as work with low skills, repeated, and physical demands," said Burzer.

Apollo is a robot that is 5 feet high and 8 inches and weighs 160 pounds. This robot can lift 55 pounds of goods and is designed to operate in the same industrial space as humans.

This humanoid robot has a friendly design and uses a control architecture that is able to maintain operational safety. Thus, this robot can help humans in carrying out dangerous physical tasks.
