Meta Platform Inc. Wins Appeal To Use His Name In Brazil
JAKARTA - Meta Platform Inc., Facebook's parent company, won an appeal on Friday 15 March which overturned an earlier court ruling banning them from using the name Meta in Brazil due to confusion with other companies.
The technology company owned by Mark Zuckerberg in late February was ordered to stop using his name in Brazil within 30 days of Brazil's computer service provider winning a lucrative ruling. The plaintiff argued that they already have rights to the name and as a result, the US brand was misquoted in more than 100 lawsuits.

In a statement, Meta Brazil said it had rights to the name in Brazil, adding that it believed the law should be followed "despite the business decisions taken by groups looking to operate in our country".
The company can still appeal against the decision.
Meta AS, formerly known as Facebook, changed its name in 2021 in a rebranding focused on building a "metaverse," a shared virtual environment.
