Head Of Authority Reveals IKN Development Impacted On These 3 Global Campaigns

JAKARTA - Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN) Bambang Susantono said the IKN development had an impact on the global campaign of three.

"In this case, IKN development has an impact on at least three global campaign movements," said Bambang when giving a speech at the National Coordination Meeting for the Capital City of the Archipelago at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta, quoted on Friday, March 15.

First, IKN wants to play an active role in dealing with the world climate change crisis.

This is possible by the presence of at least 65 percent of the land area of IKN which will be converted from production forests to tropical forests through the reforestation process.

Bambang assessed, with this process, IKN will become a sustainable forest capital city or the capital city of the country with the first sustainable forest concept and the concept of the world's first capital city.

"In line with this spirit, OIKN launched what Nusantara Net Zero Energy called," he said.

He said this was a roadmap to achieve the net zero emission target by 2045 and this was published from the 28th climate change conference or COP 28 of the United Nations (UN) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December 2023.

According to him, IKN is the first city in Indonesia to have a comprehensive strategy to achieve Net Zero Strategy.

This is earlier than Indonesia's target of achieving Net Zero by 2060.

Meanwhile, two other things are related to biodiversity and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's).

For biodiversity, this is a commitment to the sustainability of IKN's natural habitat with the concept of Nusantara Nature Positive Plan. This commitment is in line with the Kunming Montreal-Global Biodiversity Framework.

As for the SDG side, IKN carries the concept of voluntary local review (VLR) for SDG to be launched at UNESCAP in February 2024.

"With the large role of IKN in various global movements, we will still compile several other documents that will create a new milestone, a new benchmark for urban development in Indonesia," he added.
