Mining Ethereum Using Macbook M1, It Turns Out You Can!
JAKARTA - The phenomenon of crypto currencies has skyrocketed. Bitcoin occupies the first position as the most popular cryptocurrency. The price per piece is very high, it can reach Rp. 700 million.
Cryptocurrencies are not just bitcoins. In second place after bitcoin is Ethereum. This cryptocurrency has started to rise over time. In fact, this Ethereum can be mined in a very simple way.
Launching Tom's Hardware, Ethereum mining can be done using a high-end graphics card. In the future, it is expected to be able to mine using the devices at hand, especially the value of cryptocurrencies is starting to increase. Now miners can use other devices, namely the M1 chip from Apple.
Zensors software designer Yifan Gu figured out how to mine ethereum in a MacBook Air equipped with an M1 processor. Even though it requires a little setup, Gu made the code available on GitHub so Mac owners can buy it.
This is not the first time that a user has taken advantage of the M1 chip to mine cryptocurrency. CryptoAge reported in December 2020, a month after Mac devices were chip-equipped for the first time, that the XMRig developers had been tested to mine the Monero cryptocurrency.
The trials yielded the same results. Gu said that the MacBook Air can only mine Ethereum at a speed of 2MH per second. CryptoAge reports that the M1 offers the same performance for mining Monero. This is predicted to be able to reap a profit of about 0.14 US dollars per day with the same coin.
Here is a comparison of the performance of the graphics card used to mine Ethereum.
Ethereum Hash Rate Rated Power
Apple M1 2 MH / s ~ 17W to 20W (GPU only)
Nvidia 30HX 26 MH / s 125W
Nvidia 40HX 36 MH / s 185W
Nvidia 50HX 45 MH / s 250W
Nvidia 90HX 86 MH / s 320W
