Security Forces Attacked By Party Candidate Sympathizers At The Jayawijaya DPRD And KPU Offices, 14 People Arrested

The security forces in charge of securing the district level plenary at the Jayawijaya Regency DPRD Office were attacked by a group of sympathizers suspected of being one of the legislative candidates.

The attack came after the district level plenary for the Wame district was suspended.

Then there were approximately 200 people who forced their way into the DPRD office.

Furthermore, they immediately carried out attacks using arrows, catapults and stones against personnel who carried out security.

Jayawijaya Police Chief AKBP Heri Wibowo said, after the attack on personnel, the security forces immediately dispersed by firing warning shots and tear gas (flashball).

"After the masses were successfully beaten back by using tear gas, then a raid was carried out on the people around the location," said AKBP Heri, Tuesday, March 12.

From the perpetrators of the attack, evidence was confiscated in the form of 5 machetes, 2 knives, 5 arrows along with 66 arrows, 1 catapult and 3 motorbikes.

The police chief added that after the masses were successfully dispersed, suddenly another attack occurred by a mob who used two cars to the Jayawijaya KPU Office. However, they were successfully secured by Jayawijaya Police personnel and Brimob BKO who carried out security at the KPU Office.

After the incident, 14 suspected perpetrators of the attack at the DPRD and KPU offices were successfully secured. They have the initials Pdt. JK (45), TE (19), YK (33), OK (30), PW (37), NW, EW (21), SW (23), HK, YW (18), HW (18) OW (47), MK (25) and GW (35).

The results of the interim examination, the masses were relatives of one of the Garuda Party candidates with the initials YW and the attack was YW's order with the main target being PPD Wame District.

"This attack was allegedly because one of the legislative candidates did not accept the results of the votes obtained in the field, the results of the votes were different from the results when the plenary session in the Regency and he suspected that the vote was transferred to another legislative candidate," he said.

The police chief stated that the situation is now back to conducive. Regarding this case, his party is still conducting an investigation by examining the 14 people who were arrested.
