Encourage Energy Transition, PLN Performs Network Efficiency And Biomass Cofiring
JAKARTA - In an effort to encourage energy transition and achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) continues to collaborate, one of which is through developing technology to reduce emissions in Indonesia.PLN's Director of Transmission and System Planning, Evy Haryadi, said that currently PLN has carried out various technological developments to reduce CO2 emissions such as the development of biomass co-firing, efficiency of transmission and generating networks, replacing subcritical PLTU to PLTU super critical and ultra super critical, gas combined cycle and renewables energy." “ Like co-firing, for example, we have a target of 52 locations and so far 43 locations have been running and have succeeded in reducing emissions of around 1 million tons of equivalent CO2," said Haryadi in his official statement, Sunday, March 10, 2024.In addition, Haryadi added that currently PLN has succeeded in efficiency of transmission and distribution networks that have succeeded in reducing emissions by 2.8 million tons of CO2."On the other hand, our subcritical PLTU technology upgrades to PLTU super critical and ultra super critical, which will be able to reduce emissions by 20.8 million tons of CO2,” he added. The Director of Electricity Program Development of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, Wanhar said that in an effort to realize the energy transition, a collaboration between all parties is needed." “ So there really has to be a continuous synergy, sustainable, yes. We hope that PLN together with the government will continue to join hands ” said Wanhar.Wanhar also said that the government continues to build a good investment climate so that energy transition efforts can run well and quickly, including through the issuance of regulations such as Presidential Regulation 112/2022 concerning the Acceleration of Renewable Energy Development for the Provision of Electricity and Permen ESDM 12/2023 concerning the Utilization of Biomass Fuel As A Fuel Mixture at PLTU."We, the government together with other stakeholders, encourage the acceleration of the energy transition with various regulations. This regulation is expected to absorb investment and also encourage industrial growth," added Wanhar. In addition, Wanhar added that the implementation of co-firing is the best choice to generate electrical energy. Utilization of renewable energy resources together with conventional fuels to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impacts."PLN has prepared PLTU to use co-firing. Currently, PLN has used co-firing with biomass, wood chip, sudas, and palm oil shell,” he said.Gajah Mada University Center for Energy Studies Academics, Deendarlianto, said that his party was trying to conduct in-depth research on this figure by building a model of reducing emissions in the energy sector using 3 main parameters."The “ Biaya for cleaning CO2 and how much impact for industrialization by using a reduced CO2 shock turned out to be very interesting. The figures show the link between the role of technology and also the economic development towards a positive energy transition,” he said.In addition, the results of research conducted at UGM show the importance of hydrogen's role in the national electricity system by 2045, as well as the vital role of nuclear energy in 2050.
"“Oleh, therefore technological innovation needs to be encouraged, so that the era of energy transition, one of which we see, we need to encourage Indonesia towards net zero emissions in 2060," he concluded.
