JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono promised to provide Rp50 billion in budget assistance to the Gunungkidul Regency Government, Yogyakarta Special Region. This assistance for the development of fish farming is the center of ele fish cultivation.
Trenggono said that according to the results of communication with the Regent of Gunungkidul Sunaryanta, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) was asked to support the funding of fish farming in Gunungkidul to become the center of catfish cultivation in DIY.
"Starting today, we from the center made Gunungkidul the mainstay center for catfish cultivation in the DIY region," Trenggono said quoting Antara.
He said the funds disbursed amounted to Rp50 billion from 2024 to 2026. The funds are for increased production of cultivation fish.
The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries admitted that the number of catfish production in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) was not enough to reach the community's needs.
"The needs of the people in DIY are still lacking, even catfish is still imported from the Central Java region, so we will focus on producing catfish commodities in Gunungkidul Regency," he said.
For this reason, he encourages increased catfish production in Gunungkidul Regency through catfish cultivation capabilities and provides cheap feed financing for catfish farmers. "Both by providing cheap nursery, good waste management installation, and independent feed," he said.
Trenggono said the assistance provided to catfish farmers was aimed at increasing production efficiently and well.
He also ensured that he would provide assistance to catfish feed production houses until they reached the production scale considering that the biggest problem for catfish farmers was at relatively expensive feed prices.
Trenggono said that catfish cultivation is one of the efforts to improve the economy of the community, especially in Gunungkidul. The catfish capacity in Gunungkidul still uses traditional methods.
"The government must be present to provide direct assistance or make it easier to increase catfish production," he said.
According to him, the community's need for catfish commodities in DIY is high or reaches 40,000 tons at a price set at IDR 20,000 per kilogram.
