Police Secure 59 Rohingya To Be Smuggled In Pekanbaru
PekanbarU - Pekanbaru City Police, Riau Province secured 59 men from the Rohingya ethnicity from a house on Jalan Cipta Karta, Tuah Madani Subdistrict, suspected of being the place where the cukongs accommodated dozens of these foreigners. Kompol Bery admitted that his party was constrained by language to dig up information from dozens of men who were arrested on Monday (4/3) early this morning. Pekanbaru Police will coordinate with linguists for checking processes. In addition to dozens of foreigners, the police also arrested three Indonesian citizens (WNI) from that location. All three are suspected to be agents who smuggle people from the Rohingya ethnicity. "Currently we are still investigating the involvement of these three Indonesian citizens," added Kompol Bery. Previously, the Bukit Raya Sector Police, Pekanbaru City also arrested 14 refugees from Rohingya on the edge of Tengku Bey Street, Simpang Tiga Village, Bukit Raya District, 21 February 2024.
Most of the refugees, most of whom were minors, were arrested because of residents who were restless with the presence of those who were abandoned on the side of the road.
