KKB Leader Joni Botak Shot At Mile 53 Mimika Papua

TIMIKA - Head of Mimika Police, Papua IGG Era Adhinata said that a member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) from the Kali Kopi Group led by Joni Botak was shot. This incident occurred during a firefight with the authorities at Mile 53.

"Information from the field that we got, when the firing occurred, one KKB member was hit, several others were shot in the leg. But considering the location is far away, which is across the river, so currently, our members are trying to reach that location", said Era Adhinata in Timika, quoted by Antara, Monday, March 1.

The Mimika Police Chief explained that on Sunday morning, February 28, the security patrol of the PT Freeport Indonesia area around Mile 53 was shot by KKB using M-16 and AK-47 firearms and saw several people estimated to be around 5-6 people.

"Received an attack from the KKB, the members fired back targeted", he explained.

According to AKBP Era Adhinata, the firm action against the KKB was to prevent the armed group from disturbing security in the PT Freeport Indonesia area again.

"We will certainly take firm and measured actions, don't let them enter the PT Freeport area again to disturb the security situation. The public does not need to worry that this is purely between us security forces and the KKB. The location is also far away in the middle of the jungle there", said Era Adhinata.

The Mimika Police Chief confirmed that the KKB involved in the firefight with the security forces was the Kali Kopi Group led by Joni Botak.

"It's from the Joni Botak group", explained Era Adhinata.
