BPBD Calls South Lampung Floods Impact Of Drainage Blocking

LAMPUNG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said the floods that hit the South Lampung area were due to blockage of drainage.

"In flood-affected areas such as Hajimena Village, Natar District, there is a blockage of drainage that triggers water to overflow when it rains," said Head of BPBD South Lampung Regency, Ariswandi, in Natar, Sunday, February 25, as reported by Antara.

After the flood began to recede, he said, the BPBD team immediately cleaned the riverways that were blocked by garbage and tree branches.

He said the flood disaster that hit residential areas in Natar District occurred after heavy rains flushed the area on Saturday, February 24.

According to him, the large enough water discharge caused material in the form of scraps of bamboo and twigs carried away by the flow of water, resulting in blockages in drainage channels that triggered overflowing water and then hit roads and residential areas. "The height of the flood last night varied from the knee of an adult to someone who reached the roof of a resident's house," he said.

He conveyed that the areas affected by the flood disaster had received treatment from the South Lampung BPBD and related agencies, including from the police, TNI and volunteers.

He also said the incident did not cause any casualties.

Ariswandi appealed to the public to always be vigilant considering that the rainfall in the area is still quite high.
