Bappenas Calls Human Resource Development In Papua Needs The Right Step

JAKARTA - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) said the context of human resource development (HR) in Papua needed the right strategy. This is to support the acceleration of development in the region.

The Coordinator of West Papua Province, Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas Zulfakar explained that in the context of accelerating Papua's development, especially in the field of education, its treatment cannot be equated with Java or Sumatra, but requires the right strategy to accelerate the improvement of the quality of human resources.

"The treatment is not the same as Java or Sumatra, so we need the right strategy for Papua," he said, quoting Antara.

For example, he said, for improving the quality in the field of education, you must know in detail about the needs of components that support improving the quality of education before being included in the planning program.

Components of needs that need to be seen, such as facilities, class constraints, teaching staff, curriculum implementation. "That's all we have to identify and analyze," he said.

He said the most important thing is that the acceleration of development in the field of education in Papua must be approached by using the right strategy.

"For example, the construction of a school building, is it possible to build a school in a location with a population density of only five people per square kilometer, is it effective and efficient? Of course not," he said.

Perhaps, he said, what can be done is to place teachers in several nearby villages so that they can be accessed by the community. Then, the learning method must also be adjusted to local environmental conditions.

"This means that teachers who teach in that place must be able to understand the characteristics of local culture and language, so it is easy to provide teaching," he said.

Then, boarding schools are also strategic to be implemented in Papua. This dormitory patterned education is hotly discussed among regional leaders in Southwest Papua, and is expected to be built soon.

In addition, the active role of community leaders, traditional leaders and religious leaders as well as all other components to jointly pay attention to the process of accelerating development in Papua.

According to him, these are examples of strategies that must be carried out in the context of supporting the acceleration of development in the Papua region.
