Reasons For Electric Motors To Less Develop In Indonesia, One Of Them Is Because Of Battery
YOGYAKARTA Although electric motorcycles continue to be introduced to people in various circles, the development is inversely proportional to electric cars. So what is the reason for the lack of development in Indonesia?
Quoted from Antara, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko revealed the reason for the development of electric motorcycles in Indonesia not as fast as the development of electric cars. According to his explanation, the reason behind the slow development of electric motorcycles in Indonesia is as follows.
According to Moeldoko, the electric motorcycle industry is facing several challenges that make electric motorcycle products unable to meet consumer expectations and main needs for two-wheeled vehicles.
"The current motorcycle has not answered the issue for consumers about a motorcycle, especially about batteries," explained Moeldoko when met at the 2023 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) automotive exhibition, JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 20.
Not only related to consumer expectations, the limitations of electric motorcycle battery technology, which is the main component of the vehicle, are also a challenge in itself, especially for electric motorcycle manufacturers.
As is known, the price of electric motor batteries is still relatively expensive. In addition, electric motorcycle battery technology on the market is also still limited because it is only able to cover a distance of approximately 50 to 60 kilometers (km). This reason by Moeldoko is considered the main consideration by consumers.
"So if people in Tangerang want to go to Jakarta (the distance from the motorbike) 60 km they will still think about it, where will the contents be? The issue of the two batteries is still expensive," explained Moeldoko again.
Meanwhile, the duration of the auto recharge is inversely proportional. The process of rechargeing the car is even claimed to only take less than an hour to fill in 20 or 30 percent to full. Some even need 28 minutes to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent.
However, Moeldoko also hopes that the electric motorcycle industry in the country can continue to develop with various innovations that need to be improved by producers, especially related to battery technology.
"The current average price of motorcycle batteries is between Rp. 9 million to Rp. 10 million, if later it can be between Rp. 6.5 million to Rp. 6 million, people will definitely shift (to electric motorcycles), especially fast charging, long distances," added Moeldoko.
Not only said by Moeldoko, based on data from the Indonesian Bimotor Industry Association (AISI), it is known that the adoption of electric motorcycles in Indonesia is still far from expectations.
