Foreign Minister Retno Holds Bilateral Meeting With Foreign Minister Qatar

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi held a bilateral meeting with Qatar Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Doha, Qatar on Monday (19/2).

"I held a bilateral meeting with Qatar's PM/Foreign Minister," Foreign Minister Retno said at a press conference in Doha, Qatar, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 20.

Retno mentioned that during the meeting, he and Abdulrahman Al-Thani specifically discussed the development of the situation in Gaza. In addition, Retno also met with the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Qatar Lolwah Al-Khater.

During the meeting, the two discussed the collaboration between Indonesia and Qatar in providing scholarships for Afghan students, especially for women.

The bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister and the Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesperson was held on the sidelines of a meeting attended by Retno in Doha, Qatar, at the invitation of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres to discuss developments in the situation in Afghanistan.

Regarding the situation in Afghanistan, Retno conveyed several things, one of which was about Indonesia's good response to the UN Secretary General's report on the situation in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the meeting, Retno also met with special envoys from the European Union (EU), the United States (US), Pakistan, Norway, Germany, India, China, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Retno added that in the evening, he will fly to Rio de Janeiro to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting under the Brazilian presidency.

In Rio de Janeiro, Retno will also chair the MiKTA Foreign Minister's Meeting (Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey and Australia), where this year Indonesia is still the Chair of the MiKTA.
