President Jokowi Appreciates Supreme Court Internal Reform

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo welcomed the internal reforms carried out by the Supreme Court (MA) to enforce legal principles that guarantee the rule of law (rule of law) and good governance in order to improve court performance in a sustainable manner.

In this case, the President emphasized the importance of the quality of human resources (HR) judges which include integrity, professionalism, and sensitivity to the sense of justice of society and the times, including the development of science and technology.

Therefore, Jokowi said when delivering his remarks at the Special Session of the 2023 MA Annual Report in Jakarta, Tuesday, innovation should be part of reform not only by adopting new technology, but also perspectives and sensitivities in resolving legal cases. For example, the application of restorative justice system as a breakthrough in case settlement.

Jokowi expressed his appreciation from the government for the MA's innovations in encouraging the acceleration of legal transformation through increasing the use of the system-court and developing an artificial intelligence-based decision spot system (DSS) which will facilitate the consistency of decisions referring to the previous fair decision.

He also said that the Indonesian people appreciated the public openness commitment implemented by the Supreme Court, with more than 22.000 decisions already published in decision libraries that can be accessed by the public.

"I received a report that in 2023MA succeeded in deciding up to 99.47 percent of cases. This is a very, very good development," said the President. However, Jokowi continued, it was not only the quantity of decisions that were important, the most important thing was the quality of the decision that the court's decision must provide a sense of justice, provide legal certainty, and support the development of the nation and state towards advanced Indonesia.

In addition to providing a sense of justice, the President hopes that the internal system reform of the Supreme Court can help save state assets, improve people's welfare, especially, and bring Indonesia up to become a high-income country. The president expresses his gratitude to the Supreme Court for continuing to work hard to fix itself, continuing to reform is an important part for strengthening the rule of law and good governance. "The hope of the public in judicial institutions is getting higher, the community demands guarantees of justice, the community is increasingly critical of the judicial process, and is increasingly open to conveying its assessment," said President Jokowi.
