Pursuing The Target Of 1 Million Barrels, PHR Explores The Second MNK Exploration Well In The Rokan Block
PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) seeks to increase production and increase national oil and gas reserves (oil and gas) through the Non Conventional Oil and Gas drilling exploration program (MNK) by taxing the second MNK exploration well in the Rokan Working Area (WK), namely the Kelok DET-1 well.
The second MNK well tax was successfully carried out by PHR together with Pertamina Drilling at Sumur Kelok on February 14, 2024 at around 18.00 WIB. This work is carried out faster than the target.
"Alhamdulillah, the tax on the exploration well of Kelok DET-1, which is the second well of MNK exploration, is 4 days earlier than expected, due to favorable weather factors," said EVP Upstream Business PHR Edwil Suzandi in a statement to the media quoted Monday, February 19.
Edwil added that the well tax activities were carried out properly without any incidents or work accidents.
"And God willing, as long as the MNK work is carried out safely and safely or incident free operations (IFO) and can be completed according to the target," he said.
The MNK Exploration Well Hijak uses Rig Pertamina Drilling, to be precise Rig PDSI #42.3/N1500-E which is large with 1,500 horsepower (HP) power. This is a cyber rig with the latest technology with a drilling depth plan of up to 8,188 feet.
As a comparison, conventional oil and gas exploration and exploitation operations in Rokan's working area generally use 350, 550 and 750 HP rigs. With the specifications of the latest qualified rigs and technology, we are optimistic that we can succeed in the second MNK exploration well drilling program at the Rokan WK," explained Pertamina's President Director, Drilling Avep Disasmita.
Avep added that the second MNK exploration well tax in the Rokan WK is expected to be able to encourage more massive MNK exploration and study activities, because the potential for oil and gas resources is estimated to be very large.
"Pertamina Drilling is committed to participating in efforts to support national energy security, one of which is to support exploration and study activities of MNK sources and innovate related technology," he said.
Previously, PHR had drilled the first well for MNK exploration, namely the Gulamo DET-1 well, located in Rokan Hilir in July 2023. The drilling of the Gulamo DET-1 well also uses the Pertamina Drilling PDSI rig #42.3/N1500-E with a large capacity with 1,500 HP power reaching drilling depth of up to 8,559 feet into the earth with vertical exploration well type.

MNK is an oil and gas that is worked on from reservoirs where it was formed with low permeability.
The fundamental difference between conventional and nonconventional hydrocarbons is that conventional hydrocarbons form in source rocks and migrate to storage rocks (reservoirs) while nonconventional hydrocarbons form and are stored in the same rock. Therefore, nonconventional hydrocarbons do not require a trap structure like conventional hydrocarbons.
In addition, non-conventional hydrocarbons are trapped in rocks with very low porosity and permeability that require high technology to exploit them.
The MNK program is expected to be able to increase production and increase national oil and gas reserves and efforts to achieve the government's target of producing 1 million barrels of oil per day by 2030.
