KNKT Reveals Investigation Results Of Turangga Vs Bandung Raya Train Accident: Persilian Equipment Is Old
JAKARTA - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has completed the final investigation report regarding the railway collision case involving the Greater Bandung KRL with the Turangga train at KM 181+700 road plots at Cicalengka Station-Haurpugur Station.
Acting Head of the KNKT Railway IK Kabuskom Gusnaedi Rachmanas said there was a signal confirmation bias that was the beginning of the cause of the train accident.
"This accident occurred due to a signal sent by the interface system to order the mechanical block equipment (uncommanded signal) at Cicalengka Station which was processed by the Haurpugur Station electric block signal system," he said at a press conference, at the KNKT Office, Jakarta, Friday, February 16.
Gusnaedi said the uncommanded signal that occurred was processed by the Haurpugur Station electric block signal system which was then displayed as an indication that it had been given a safe block, so that the Haurpugur Station PPKA could continue the service process for the 350 CL Bandung Raya train route to Cicalengka Station.
Furthermore, Gusnaedi said indications that the safe block had been given had an impact on the decision-making process to dispatch trains from each station.
"Because in terms of the system, Haurpugur Station can continue the process of serving routes for the 350 CL Bandung Raya train to Cicalengka Station," he said.
Gusnaedi explained that after Haurpugur Station sent a 'lepas' signal or info departed for the 350 CL Bandung Raya train to Cicalengka Station.

This input caused the mechanical block indicator of Cicalengka Station to turn white, so Cicalengka Station can carry out the Turangga 65A train to Haurpugur Station.
"A few moments later there was a collision between the two trains in front of the entrance signal of Cicalengka Station," he said.
Meanwhile, KNKT Chairman Soerjanto Tjahjono admitted that the incident was also influenced by human factors and old mechanical equipment.
"Indeed, this is the involvement of human factors, human contribution does exist, but here the equipment in the old mechanical Cicalengka," he said.
