Election Dispute Predicted Will OCCUR, How Will It Affect The Domestic Investment Climate?

JAKARTA - The results of the quick count of the 2024 presidential election from various survey institutions have been issued, where the Prabowo-Gibran pair is superior to their two rivals.

Instead of two rounds in the 2024 General Election, it is predicted that election disputes will occur.

Then, what is the impact on the domestic investment climate?

Senior economist and Executive Director of the Segara Research Institute Piter Abdullah said, reflecting on the results of the quick count, it is unlikely that two rounds will occur. The reason is, Piter said, the votes obtained by candidate pair number 02 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in quick count are very large.

The advantage in QC is too big so it is very unlikely that two rounds will occur. What I think is more likely to happen is election disputes.

There will be a lot of cheating lawsuits. But I don't think this will change the election results," he said when contacted by VOI, Thursday, February 15.

Regarding the impact on investment, Piter assessed that this election dispute would not interfere with the domestic investment climate. The reason is, investors will judge that the lawsuit cannot change the results of the 2024 election.

"I don't think it's disturbing. Election fraud lawsuits will definitely happen, but investors believe it won't change the election results," he said.

Therefore, according to Piter, the flow of investment and interest of investors in investing in Indonesia will continue to run well. The reason is, investors don't really mind who will lead Indonesia after Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stepped down.

"So investors can no longer hesitate. They can continue their business in Indonesia. I think investor confidence is reflected in today's stock market," he explained.
