Target Of Bringing Chelsea To The Champions League, Enzo Fernandez's Answer About Rumors To Barcelona
JAKARTA - Chelsea hopes to get a ticket to the Champions League. This is a target for midfielder Enzo Fernandez as well as a form of rebuttal that he wants to leave Chelsea.
Once won against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League competition, Fernandez has boasted that he wants to bring Chelsea to European competition. It's not an easy matter because Chelsea has not been able to show performance stability in the league.
Moreover, the Blues previously lost two defeats against Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The unstable performance made Chelsea still struggling in the middle board.
Currently, Chelsea is still ranked 10th with 34 points. However, Fernandez believes Chelsea can penetrate the top four or at least rank five in order to compete in the Europa League.
"The victory over Crystal Palace means a lot to us. Moreover, the previous week we defeated Aston Villa in the FA Cup," said Fernandez.
"We have indeed changed attitude. That victory makes us more confident. Throughout this season, our performance has always been up and down. This is what makes us far behind the leaders of the standings," said the young Argentine national team player.
"But the journey is still a long way off. We still have to work hard and improve our ability to achieve the target. Of course we want to compete in the Champions League next season," he said. Fernandez set a high target and it was rather difficult to achieve. If Manchester United still hopes to qualify for the Champions League, it is a natural thing because it is currently in sixth place and six points adrift of Totteham Hotspur who is in fourth position.
On the other hand, Chelsea is already 13 points adrift. Even though the competition is still long, Chelsea's journey to hunt down Tottenham is no less long and winding.
However, Fernandez's ambitions at least helped reduce the issue of wanting to leave Stamford Bridge.
After arguing about his departure, Fernandez was faced with news that he himself offered to join Barcelona. This wish was conveyed through his agent
Fernandez and cap Perez, his agent, both denied the rumors. "Both me and Enzo clearly keep following the [Chelsea] project. Moreover, they are indeed making changes to the squad," said Perez.
Meanwhile, Fernandez stated that he would not leave Chelsea.
"I don't want to leave Chelsea. I've been in good relations with teammates and coaching staff since I first arrived. I'm very happy here," he said.
