Hold Jokowi's Speech, JK: If He Campaigns To Violate The Law

JAKARTA - The 10th and 12th Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla (JK) held a statement by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who emphasized that he would not be involved in campaigning in the 2024 presidential election.

According to JK, if proven to be campaigning, Jokowi violated Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. This is because state officials, including the President of the Republic of Indonesia, can campaign if registered as election participants or the official campaign team for presidential and vice presidential candidates.

This is different from Jokowi's assumption that he can take sides and campaigns, even though he has emphasized that he will not do it.

"If you want a campaign, register first with the KPU, register as a success team rather than number 2 (Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka). If he campaigns, he violates the law," said JK at his residence, Jalan Brawijaya Raya, South Jakarta, Wednesday, February 7.

JK admitted that he did support one of the candidate pairs, namely presidential and vice-presidential candidates number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar. However, JK emphasized that he would not campaign because he was not included in the structure of the Anies-Muhaimin Winning National Team (AMINAn National Team).

"If I say support, but I'm not campaigning because I support it. Yes, I just sit and never talk (demonstration)," said the Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).

On that basis, JK also reminded Jokowi to maintain his ethics as head of state. "As a leader, I always say, it must be as good and fair as possible, the oath. So, the ethics of the punishment is not prison but the ethics of the law are ashamed. If a person is ethical, it means that he is embarrassing himself," he continued.

Previously, President Joko Widodo emphasized that he would not participate in campaigning to support one of the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the remainder of the 2024 election campaign period.

"Who said who? If the question was whether I would campaign, I would say no, I would not campaign," said President Jokowi in a press statement at the Limapuluh Toll Gate, Batubara Regency, North Sumatra Province.

Jokowi reiterated that what was conveyed some time ago about the President being able to campaign was to convey the provisions of the law.

"I want to reiterate my previous statement that the President is indeed allowed to campaign and I have also shown the sound of the rules," said Jokowi.
