Two Acehnese Fishermen Hanyut Rescued By Malaysian Marin Police
Two fishermen from North Aceh Regency were rescued by Malaysian Marin Police personnel while swept away and carried away by the current into the waters of the neighboring country.
"Two fishermen from North Aceh who were swept away into the Kedah area have been rescued by the Malaysian Marin Police," said Panglima Laot Aceh, Miftach Tjut Adek, in Banda Aceh, Sunday.
The two fishermen from North Aceh are Asnawi from Ulee Rubek and Zuhdi from Krueng Geukuh.
Miftach explained that the two fishermen previously went to sea using a 3 GT boat thep-thep (small boat) about five days ago from Krueng Geukuh Port.
In the middle of the trip, he said, their ship's engine was broken and was tied with a rope, but did not last long and broke.
"Finally they swept away with the ship, followed the current and ocean wind, until they were found and rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Police," he said.
After being rescued, he continued, the two Acehnese fishermen were taken to the Kuala Kedah area and on February 1, 2024, it was discovered by an Acehnese named Yasin who had been domiciled there for 17 years as a fish link.
"Then Yasin gave guarantees for the two Acehnese fishermen who were found without the identity. Then contacted us to send the fisherman's ID card there," he said.
Regarding this issue, his party has coordinated with the Aceh Government through the Aceh Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service (DKP) for the handling of the two Acehnese fishermen.
"We also ask the central government, in this case the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to advocate, because this is purely a disaster," said Miftach Tjut Adek.
For information, Panglima Laot is an Acehnese customary marine institution that oversees fishermen in Aceh. All problems related to the sea in Aceh cannot be separated from the authority of the institution.
