Meeting With The Minister Of Foreign Affairs Of Myanmar, Retno Marsudi: Indonesia With The People Of Myanmar
JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met the Myanmar Foreign Minister who was appointed by the military, Wunna Maung Lwin, on the sidelines of her working visit to Thailand, Wednesday, February 24.
Apart from Retno and Maung Lwin, this meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Don Pramudwinai. This effort is part of Indonesia's shuttle diplomacy in contributing positively, to find the best solution for the current situation in Myanmar.
To Maung Lwin, Retno Marsudi reiterated the attitude of the Indonesian Government regarding the situation that occurred in the Thousand Pagoda Country.
"Indonesia will be together with the people of Myanmar", she said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, February 24.
On the same occasion, she also said that he would establish communication with all parties in Myanmar. And, he said that the safety of the people of Myanmar is the number one priority.
"We ask everyone to exercise restraint and not commit violence, to avoid casualties and bloodshed", he said.
No less important, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi also asked the Myanmar military regime to respect the ASEAN Charter, regarding access to humanitarian visits for political prisoners.
It is known that since carrying out a coup on February 1, the Myanmar military has detained several political figures and hundreds of other people. Among them were Myanmar Leader Aung San Suu Kyi and Myanmar President Win Myint.
