Caring For The Development Of The Community Around, IWIP Is Carrying Out Its Social Responsibility

JAKARTA - Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) plays an active role in improving people's standard of living in the Weda Bay Industrial Estate ring area in North Maluku Province. IWIP consistently continues to synergize with the Regency/City Regional Government and Provincial Government through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

Throughout 2023, various CSR programs have been realized by referring to 4 main pillars, taitu; Education, Health, Social Culture and Environment as well as Economic Development of Local Communities.

In the education sector, IWIP contributes by building various facilities and infrastructure in 25 schools, from PAUD to SMA equivalent levels spread across Central Halmahera and East Halmahera Regencies.

The company also provided laboratory equipment assistance to the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering, Khairun University in Ternate. In Tidore Islands City, IWIP distributed scholarships to 77 STMIK Tidore Mandiri students through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and contributed 44 units of computers to support student learning activities.

In addition, IWIP also collaborates with the Regional Government in implementing the Pandai Fast Calculation Program Phase II, the "GASING" Mathematical method, and the Letter Blind Completion Program which was held at SMP Negeri 4 Central Halmahera.

The health sector is one of the important sectors that is a priority for the company, synergizing with the Central Halmahera regional government, IWIP provides support by facilitating comparative study activities for health workers abroad. A total of 20 health workers include 2 employees from the Health Service, 5 Midwives from Weda Hospital, 11 field coordinators from the Puskesmas in Halteng, nurses and pharmacists dispatched to China, as an effort to improve the performance of health workers to always adapt to technology while encouraging the optimal performance of health worker services.

IWIP has also contributed to supporting the central government and local governments in dealing with COVID-19 since 2021, by donating 250 units of oxygen concentrators and various other medical devices. The company also handed over 3 ambulances to facilitate access to the mobilization of health services.

Realizing the importance of supporting a healthy environment with good health facilities in the surrounding village of industrial and mining areas, IWIP together with the Central Halmahera Regional Government carried out the construction of the Lelilef Inpatient Health Center which was carried out in stages.

As a National Strategic Project (PSN), IWIP also plays an active role in environmental conservation. Through various methods of preserving and managing community-based coastal ecosystems, involving youth communities and local communities as well as academics. The company has carried out coral transplantation and rehabilitation of mangroves in coastal areas around industrial areas and mines to the coast of Barahima Beach, Mesa Village, East Weda District.

Not only focusing on industrial estate areas, but the company is also collaborating with several youth communities that care about marine ecosystems in the City of Tidore Islands, by conducting socialization and education activities as well as coral reef transplant practices in coastal areas.

With the acquisition of the Blue PROPER for PT Weda Bay Nickel (WBN) activities for the environment focused on mining areas, it has met high standards.

From the social and religious aspects, the company realizes that in addition to economic and environmental aspects, the facilities and infrastructure of houses of worship have also become more attention. A total of 90 houses of worship, including mosques and churches located in Central Halmahera and East Halmahera, have received material and non-material assistance throughout 2023. The material supplied by the company is processed material from waste, which has carried out the feasibility test stage of its use.

In this step, IWIP proves that business and social and environmental concern can go hand in hand, creating positive synergies for the growth and progress of the Central Halmahera and East Halmahera areas.

In the economic development sector of the local community, IWIP has contributed to collaborating with local MSMEs by making improvements and construction of roads as well as drainage in the ring villages of industrial and mining areas. This is to improve road quality and ensure smooth mobility of residents, including employees who work in the Weda Bay Project Area.

IWIP and WBN also contributed to the construction of clean water installations in Central Halmahera, by building Water Intake and Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Water Intake and WTP will supply 15,000 cubic meters per day for the surrounding community. The company is also responsible for costs and all technical aspects, ranging from Detailed Engineering Design (DED), construction, to commissioning and handover.

IWIP hopes that the CSR program that has been realized over the past year will have a positive impact and can provide significant benefits for the welfare of the people of North Maluku, especially the circle of institutions and mines.
