Although Not Efficient Because It Is Far Away, The Payakumbuh Regency Government Was Forced To Transport Waste To The Cold Water TPA
Payakumbuh City Government, West Sumatra, is still looking for solutions to solve the problem of waste in the area after the Regional TPA operation was stopped due to landslides."We continue to find the best solution because this involves directly the convenience of the community. One of them is that we coordinate with the West Sumatra Provincial Government," said Acting (Pj) Mayor of Payakumbuh, Jasman when contacted from Padang, Wednesday, January 31.Currently, the garbage in Payakumbuh is still being transported to the Cold Water TPA, Padang City with a distance of about 120 kilometers from the city. Although it is not efficient in terms of time and cost, the policy had to be taken to deal with the accumulated waste in Payakumbuh. However, said Jasman, the deadline for transporting waste to the Cold Water TPA, Padang is only until the third week of February 2024."We understand the reason the Padang City Government is limiting time is because we think about the capacity of the Cold Water TPA so that it does not overcapacity quickly. Like it or not, we have to find other solutions," he said.He said he had met with the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi and the Head of the West Sumatra Environment Office, Tasliatul Fuaddi to discuss waste issues in Payakumbuh and find solutions."The governor is very concerned and serious about responding to the waste problem in Payakumbuh. We are now waiting for the results of the West Sumatra Provincial Government's internal meeting for a solution in the future," he said.Previously, the Payakumbuh City Government transported and threw garbage at the Payakumbuh Regional TPA. However, since December 21, 2023, the TPA operation has been stopped due to landslides that occurred on December 20, 2023.
As a result of the termination of the Regional TPA's operations, much of the garbage in Payakumbuh City piled up at several points of Temporary Waste Disposal Sites (TPSS), causing inconvenience to the community.
