Paper Butterfly Presents The Story Of A Couple Set Of Bloody Incidents In Banyuwangi, Airing February 7

JAKARTA - Kupu Paper is the latest film to premiere in theaters on February 7. This film is produced by Denny Siregar Production in collaboration with Maxima Pictures.

Directed by Emil Heradi, Kupu Paper tells the story of a pair of teenagers who love each other, but are hindered by the circumstances around them.

This film takes the background of a bloody incident in Banyuwangi, East Java in 1965 between the Ansor Youth Movement from Nahdlatul Ulama and sympathizers of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI).

Meanwhile, Kupu-Kupu Kertas stars Amanda Manopo, Chicco Kurniawan, Iwa K, Reza Oktovian, Samo Rafael, Fajar Nugra, Ayu Laksmi, and Seroja Hafiedz.

Emil Heradi said the selection of players was done carefully. He is well aware that the difficulty in this film is how to make research data on events in Banyuwangi at that time into films that can be enjoyed by the audience.

The most difficult thing is that we know about this story. So, how data can be a breath, how can we live the feeling, how to live in that era, and what to experience. That's why we choose people who are not only good, but also right, because the breath of the era was born to them (a character)," said Emil Heradi during a press conference at Epicentrum, South Jakarta, Monday, January 29.

The same thing was also stated by Denny Siregar. With the theme raised, he wants young people today to also know one of the dark histories that has occurred in Indonesia.

"Our goal is actually to introduce the dark times we have faced to young people. That's why we invite young players like Amanda and Chicco," said Denny Siregar.

Iwa Kusuma added that what is shown in the Paper Butterfly, especially the characters he plays, has an in-depth message that can provide valuable lessons for young people.

"The point is, whether it's from the PKI or Ansor, what we lift is when one character has been blinded by an ambition, everything will be done," said Iwa Kusuma.

Created to display events that occur ceratistically, maybe the shooting process is also carried out in Banyuwangi and Bondowoso. Although the location is quite difficult to access, the cast agrees to be satisfied with the results displayed.

Ayu Laksmi, who is known for her role in horror films, also admitted that she was happy to be involved in the Paper Butterfly. He saw what was presented to give his own color in the world of Indonesian cinema.

"I got tremendous energy from these younger siblings. I also want to say thank you to Bang Denny, because he wanted to invite me out of the horror film zone. I think this film can give a different new color," concluded Ayu Laksmi.
