Griezmann's Struggle Under Quique Setien
JAKARTA - It is undeniable that Antoine Griezmann has always been Quique Setien's first choice on the front lines of Barcelona in the La Liga event. But the problem is, the French striker has not been able to provide many goals since Ernesto Valverde's sacking.
In fact, in eight La Liga games with Setien on the bench, Griezmann netted just one goal in the 2-1 win over Getafe at Camp Nou. The former Atletico Madrid forward has bagged eight La Liga goals so far this season, but failed to make an impression in Saturday's clash against Real Sociedad.
Although Setien has included him in the starting line-up in eight La Liga games as Barcelona coach, the France international has yet to register a single assist.
Griezmann, who usually shifts to the left flank if he doesn't play as a striker, has had no finishing touches in recent games. He is still adapting to the team's needs, and is trying to integrate with Lionel Messi up front.
In total, he has scored 14 goals this season in all competitions, five of which he has played since Setien was appointed coach. He also scored three goals in the Copa del Rey and one in the Supercopa de Espana.
Griezmann, who was a signing for Barcelona last summer, is one of those players who find it easy to find playing time, especially following Luis Suarez's injury. But so far, the 2018 World Cup winner has not succeeded in restoring his coach's trust.
Barcelona returned to the top of the standings after Real Madrid lost 1-2 to Real Betis. Barcelona, the day before beat Real Sociedad 1-0, scored through Lionel Messi. Meanwhile, Griezmann, barely appeared in his best game at all.
