Demonstrated By Myanmar Citizens, Representatives Of The Indonesian Embassy In Yangon Meet Protesters

JAKARTA - A group of Myanmar citizens held a demonstration in front of the Indonesian Embassy in Myanmar, in connection with the circulation of reports that Indonesia called on ASEAN countries to support the re-election promised by the Myanmar military.

The demonstration took place after Myanmar's citizens were busy criticizing the news of Indonesia's support. Through social media Twitter, Myanmar citizens are busy expressing their rejection of the re-election plan, which was first reported by Reuters by referring to an anonymous source in the news on Tuesday, February 22 yesterday.

Until finally today the people of Myanmar held a demonstration in front of the Indonesian Embassy. They feel disappointed and surprised by the news that Indonesia supports the re-election.

Judging from the Twitter page @Irrawaddy News, residents carried various articles stating their rejection of the re-election discourse.

"We don't need a new election," read one of the writings brought by residents.

"Respect our voices, Citizens of Myanmar," said another.

"We have carried out an honest election," said another.

"ASEAN, Respect out Votes," wrote another protester.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Indonesian Embassy in Myanmar met the protesters. In a video circulating on Twitter, the representative delivers the news that is circulating is not true.

"Once again I want to explain that what was said to be conveyed by the spokesperson for the Indonesian ministry which was written in Reuters is not true. Indonesia does not support the re-election," he said, receiving a "Thankyou" response from the protesters.

Previously, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah, who was confirmed by VOI, said he could not comment because he did not know who the official was being asked to comment on.
