Mahfud MD Highlights Alleged Corruption In Papua's Special Autonomy, Polri Builds Coordination
JAKARTA - The National Police confirmed that they would coordinate with related parties in investigating alleged corruption in the misappropriation of Papua's Special Autonomy (Otsus) funds.
This responded to a statement from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD who said he would gather law enforcement officers to investigate the case.
"Of course we will coordinate, problems like that are not only the Police who solve it," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, to reporters, Tuesday, February 23.
Rusdi said that the handling of this case must involve a number of law enforcement agencies. So, for that reason, the first step taken by the National Police was to build communication.
"This is related to other agencies," he said.
Previously, Mahfud MD emphasized that he would follow up and gather law enforcement officials from the Attorney General's Office, the KPK and the Police so that law enforcement immediately enforced law in Papua.
"I always listen to this matter of law enforcement when having a dialogue with the community and Papuan leaders. Therefore we are following up, we are gathering the Attorney General's Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission, the Police, to bring this aspiration, we will follow up on law enforcement," said Mahfud.
Regarding various other proposals including the expansion of the province, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs emphasized that he would follow up with two steps. First, the legislation process which will later be submitted to the team through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
"Second, I have asked deputy one of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to immediately map it so that the division area is correct, including reviewing proposals from the heads of regions and community leaders," said Mahfud.
