Indonesia's Electricity Supply Is Still Overcapacity Up To 4 GW
The Directorate General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) noted that there is still excess capacity or overcapacity in electricity supply in Java and Bali.
The excess capacity was recorded at 4 gigawatts (GW).
Direktur Jenderal Ketenagalistrikan Jisman P Hutajulu mengatakan, kelebihan kapasitas tersebut memang telah terjadi sejak lama untuk itu pihaknya telah menyiapkan beberapa strategi
"We see that Java and Bali are still oversupply, there are still 4 GWs," said Jisman, quoted on Friday, January 19.
With the excess supply, Jisman said that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources then pushed back several power plants that were supposed to operate in the near future so that no additional supplies overflowed.
"So that the take or pay doesn't pile up. So that the PLN doesn't have any more buffers," continued Jisman.
Previously, through the government program of 35,000 MW, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources projected the growth of electricity consumption by 7-8 percent and the growth in electricity consumption per capita also increased.

However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the target was not achieved and the existing electricity had not been maximally absorbed.
For now, he said, electricity consumption is already at 5-6 percent so Jisman believes the overcapacity of electricity can be overcome within 2 to 3 years.
"Now electricity growth is at 5-6 percent so that the overcapacity can be resolved in the next 2-3 years. We must also anticipate in Java and Bali," concluded Jisman.
