Anies Baswedan Will Revise The KPK Law To Restore Wibawa
JAKARTA - Presidential Candidate Anies Baswedan emphasized that he would revise the KPK Law if he was elected president in 2024-2029. Anies said that low public trust in the KPK must be answered by returning the KPK's strengthening.
"Reverting public trust, returning the KPK to become a core that has strength and has the ability to take action against corruption. Aspects of one law, we want to return the KPK to be legally authoritative, this means revising the KPK Law. We want this revision to be able to return the KPK to a strong position," said Anies in PAKU Integrity (Strengthening Anti-Corruption for the 2024 presidential and vice presidential candidates) at the KPK, Wednesday, January 17.
Previously, vice presidential candidate Mahfud MD on a separate occasion, admitted that he wanted to return Law number 30 of 2002 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) or the old law before revision was carried out to restore the glory and dignity of the KPK.
"For the current KPK, my trust is a bit lacking, but in my opinion, the KPK is still needed. Because in the past the KPK had a heyday with the old law. If I can be honest, the law should be returned first, that's what matters," said Mahfud when delivering his ideas and vision at the Hasanuddin University campus in Makassar, South Sulawesi, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 13.
The professor of the Faculty of Law at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta also responded to the question of Unhas lecturer Professor Armin Asryad who expressed concern over the existence of the KPK which began to fade after the KPK law was revised and ratified by the DPR RI.
"People ask me, how come you were there when the KPK Law was born that weakened the KPK. Well, the law was born before I became Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, so it was discussed since January, September it was passed, October I became a Minister, so this (detained) has been ratified," he said.
