Myanmar Citizens Reject Re-Election Called Supported By Indonesia, This Is The Explanation Of The Indonesian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs

JAKARTA - Myanmar citizens are busy rejecting ASEAN's discourse to support the Myanmar military regime, which wants to hold back democratic elections. This support discourse is said to be initiated by Indonesia.

Through social media Twitter, Myanmar citizens are busy expressing their rejection of the re-election plan, which was first reported by Reuters by referring to an anonymous source in the news on Tuesday, February 22 yesterday.

Reuters said two senior officials on condition of anonymity said a diplomatic solution should focus on preventing bloodshed and helping the military honor its commitment to holding new elections and handing power to the victors.

Myanmar citizens want the results of the November 8 elections to be recognized, the elected leaders are released, including Aung San Suu Kyi and Myanmar President Win Myint.

"Absolutely Nooooo !!! We already selected our leader, our government. Please Respect Our Votes !!! That's our true Voice. See how many people want to respect their votes !! We don't need another election! We want our elected leader and government back", wrote the account @YourAnonMyanmar.

"PLEASE RESPECT OUR VOTES !!! We Want our selected LEADER and GOVERNMENT back", wrote another account @JinOo94363112.

"We want true democracy, not a fake one, and yes we already have our elected leaders", wrote the account @PyaePhy72433514.

Responding to this, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah, who was confirmed by VOI, said he could not comment because he did not know who the official was being asked to comment on.

"I can't confirm, because I don't know who Reuters is referring to. I have read the article and when asked, I suggest waiting for the mission of the Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to finish. The Foreign Minister will still hold consultations in 2 days, later when there is one. the result, because it is the Foreign Minister who can convey the results of the consultation", explained Teuku Faizasyah.

Previously, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated that Indonesia would continue to strive and contribute constructively in resolving political conflicts in Myanmar following the coup carried out by the country's military on February 1.

He also emphasized that the safety and welfare of the Myanmar people must be a top priority, Retno assessed that efforts to secure the sustainability of an inclusive transition to democracy in Myanmar need to be put forward.

"(For that) the regional mechanism must be able to work better to constructively help resolve this difficult issue", he explained some time ago.

Meanwhile, Myanmar military leader General Min Aung Hlaing on two occasions promised to hold a democratic election, after claiming the results of the November 8, 2020 election which was won by the National League for Democracy party led by Aung San Suu Kyi, thus staging a coup on February 1.

"The military junta will establish a true and disciplined democracy, unlike before. We will hold multiparty democratic elections and we will hand over power to those who win those elections, according to the rules of democracy", he told Reuters.
