PUPR Ministry Ensures Four 2020 PON Papua Venues Are Ready To Use

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements continues to complete the construction of four sports arenas to support the implementation of the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua Province in 2020.

The construction of a sports arena is being carried out in Jayapura Regency, namely the Aquatic arena and ISTORA Papua Bangkit in the Kampung Harapan Sports Area, East Sentani District and the Cricket arena and Hockey Field (Indoor and Outdoor) in Doyo Baru Village, Waibu District.

On this occasion the Head of the Center for Development of Educational, Sports and Market Infrastructure Facilities (PSPPOP) Iwan Suprijanto accompanied the Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo, reviewing the construction process of sports arenas and supporting facilities, recently to ensure the readiness of sports infrastructure and facilities built according to the target. set.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the completion of the construction of sports venues is targeted on time to support the implementation of PON XX while still paying attention to safety aspects that involve supervision from the Construction Safety Committee (K2 Committee).

"The construction of sports infrastructure and facilities for the XX PON must be very careful, starting from the design, construction and supervision stages," said Minister Basuki in a statement quoted on Monday, March 9.

The Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo expressed his high appreciation to the Ministry of PUPR with the construction of PON venues. "The PON venues are not only the pride of the Papuan people, but also the pride of all Indonesian people," he said.

In addition, Bambang said, with the construction of these PON venues, it is hoped that it can encourage young people, Papuan athletes to be more enthusiastic and excel at becoming champions both on the national and international levels.

"Earlier we had a look at the aquatic venue, and it was not inferior to the one at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Jakarta, so we hope the Papuan people are excited to become athletes from various sports and win champions at PON later," he said.

PSPPOP Center Head Iwan Suprijanto ensures that all sports and supporting facilities will be ready on time and can be used for the XX PON on 20 October-2 November 2020 and beforehand can be used for event tests.

"This event test is to ensure whether this venue is suitable or not to be used," he explained.

In detail per facility, the construction of the aquatic arena has reached 81.4 percent progress, faster than the original target of 73.70 percent and is targeted for completion in July 2020. Currently, physical works are being carried out in the form of steel frames and ACPs, installation work for match pond liners, GRC, solar panel installation.

The Papua Aquatic venue was built in accordance with FINA Standards at a cost of the 2018-2020 State Budget (MYC) of IDR 401.058 billion. Meanwhile, the progress of the construction of the Istora Papua Bangkit has reached 77.99 percent or faster than the schedule of 73.98 percent. This venue was built with a fund of IDR 278.57 billion by the contractor PT PP (Persero) and the management consultant PT Virama Karya of IDR 4.8 billion.

Furthermore, the construction of the Cricket arena and the Hockey field, both indoor and outdoor, has reached 86.25 percent or faster than the initial plan of 82.28 percent. The work itself is targeted for completion in June 2020.

Currently, work is being carried out to install a metal roof Hockey indoor roof, work on an indoor Hockey scoring board installation, work on installing an outdoor hockey FOP light pole, and a cricket stand ACP work.

The total cost of building the Cricket arena and the Hockey field is IDR 277 billion by PT Nindya Karya's contractor and PT Bina Karya's management consultant, valued at IDR4.9 billion.
