The Emergence Of Unique Modes Of Drug Smuggling
JAKARTA - It seems that drug dealers have never given up on distributing or smuggling various types of narcotics. They often use the mode so that prohibited items can reach their destination without being noticed by law enforcement officials.
Recently, a unique methamphetamine smuggling mode was revealed. Two suspects, ED (30) and NS (52), attempted to smuggle seven packages of crystal methamphetamine to the Salemba Penitentiary (Lapas) by hiding them in ribs of soup. By using this modus operandi, the perpetrators were able to trick the officers on duty four times.
Furthermore, in January, the smuggling of narcotics in the form of marijuana weighing 254 kilograms also used a quite unique mode. The mode used is by camouflaging hundreds of kilograms of dried cannabis leaves on a durian transport truck. In that case, three people with the initials SO (58), EA (44) and SN, were named as suspects.
They take advantage of the strong aroma of durian to fool the smell of marijuana. This method succeeded in getting them to bring marijuana from Aceh to Jakarta.
Criminalist at the University of Indonesia, Ferdinand Andi Lolo, said drug dealers would continue to rack their brains in order to trick officers. In fact, it does not close the possibility, someday narcotics dealers will use methods outside of logic.
"Drug smugglers are getting more creative, because the authorities have detected conventional methods," Ferdianand told VOI, Monday, March 9.
For this reason, law enforcement officials must also be creative in their efforts to uncover drug cases. In addition, the network between institutions must be further improved so that drug dealers find it difficult to enter Indonesia.
"The police cannot and may not be alone, they must cooperate with the authorities at the entrance, such as immigration, customs, post, shipping services, airports, airlines, as well as sea and land routes," said Ferdinand.
