Gewayantana Airport Re-opens After Being Closed Due To The Eruption Of Mount Lewotobi Men
KUPANG - AirNav Indonesia Kupang Branch reported that Gewayantana Airport in East Flores Regency was back in operation after previously being closed for two days due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi in Wulangitang District.
"Today, Gewayantana airport has been operating again," said General Manager of AirNav Indonesia Kupang Branch I Nyoman Oka Wirana as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 12.
This was conveyed by him related to the development of the closure of Gewayantana airport in Larantuka City, the capital city of East Flores Regency due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki.
Gewayantana Larantuka Airport, previously closed for two days from Wednesday, January 10 to Thursday, January 11 yesterday.
As a result, there were about 92 passengers who wanted to travel from Kupang to Larantuka and on the contrary, they had to cancel due to the danger of the volcanic ash of Mount Lewotobi Laki.
"After the paper test, the results were negative, so it was decided to reopen," he said.
However, he said the paper test will continue as long as there is still an eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki. If positive then the airport will be closed again.
This also applies to Frans Seda airport in Maumere, Sikka Regency, which is now operating, although it was closed for several days due to volcanic ash.
