Pepep Yakin Charly Van Houten Tak Akan Larang ST12 Layangkan Lagunya

JAKARTA - Ilham Febry or better known as Pepep ST12 responded to the circulation of a snippet of Charly van Houten's video on social media, which said ST12 had to ask for permission when it wanted to perform his songs.

Pepep casually responded to the circulation of the video. According to him, what Charly said did not mean forbidding. The last time I met and performed together, the ST12 drummer also did not hear any discussion about the prohibition of singing Charly's song.

"Yesterday I had a gig in Malaysia, a reunion, there was no story. And that was also Charly when he spoke on social media," Pepep said when met at SCBD, South Jakarta, Tuesday, January 9.

Furthermore, Pepep believes Charly cannot prohibit himself from performing ST12 songs, even though the song was written by Charly alone.

For him, Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright is clear enough, and it does not allow a songwriter to prohibit someone from bringing their work if they have fulfilled their obligations and pay royalties.

"Actually, if we follow Law No. 28 of 2014, actually songwriters should not prohibit the song from being performed, that's why the law is very strong," said Pepep.

"If the law is not enacted, the industry will be chaotic, publishing will go bankrupt, major labeling as aggregator will also go bankrupt, because he is given the right to the economy to take care of it," he continued.

Pepep also argued that a musical work was written and recorded by several musicians. If songwriters forbid someone from performing their work, it is not impossible for every musician involved in the work to draw the part they recorded.

"And if it's not regulated by law, I can also pull out my drums, later bass players will pull the bass, guitar players too. So it will definitely be chaotic," said Pepep.

"That's why we've never heard of this phenomenon abroad, it's only been in Indonesia," he concluded.
