Iran Accuses Israel And Threatens To Mastermind The Assassination Of Sayyed Razi

TEHRAN - Iran threatened Israel with a "resignal count" following the assassination of an Iranian military adviser in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and accused Tel Aviv of being behind the airstrikes on Monday outside the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a statement posted on his X account on Monday evening that Sayyed Razi was an Iranian adviser fighting terrorism in Syria.

Reported by VOI from Anodalu, Amir-Abdollahian expressed his condolences to the Razi family. He added that Razi had been in the region for several years with military commander General Qassem Soleimani who was killed to ensure the security of Iran and the region.

Iran's semi-official news agency Tasnim said Razi was one of the oldest IRGC military advisers serving in Syria and one of Soleimani's close friends.

In a statement, the IRGC community relations department described Razi as an experienced military adviser and Soleimani's "friend", and the IRGC said Israel would "pay the price" for its death.

His assassination comes amid a series of attacks on US military bases and Israeli interests in Iraq and Syria in recent weeks attributed to Iran-backed groups in Iraq.

Iran maintains a significant military presence in Syria, which has often sparked tensions between Tehran and Washington, as US troops are also stationed there.

Tensions escalated as Israeli wars in the Gaza Strip escalated, which claimed nearly 20,700 lives of Palestinians.
