Check Out How TikTok Fights The Spread Of Misinformation In Order To Maintain Integrity In The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - Ahead of the 2024 General Election, TikTok is committed to maintaining the integrity and neutrality of its platform by carrying out a series of proactive activities to ensure that platforms and users avoid the dangers of misinformation. Continuing its proactive efforts, TikTok cooperates with the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI) to overcome misinformation by providing credible and authoritative access to information about the 2024 General Election to Indonesian users and people.

The Indonesian KPU considers that the choice of methods and media is an important strategy in conveying messages of electoralism that are of quality, integrity, and democratic. The chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, hopes that TikTok, as one of the most popular digital entertainment platforms in Indonesia, can become a filter and light, as well as prevent the spread of disinformation, hoaxes, or slander, especially related to electoral content.

Welcoming the hopes of the Indonesian KPU, Faris Mufid, Public Policy and Government Relations, TikTok Indonesia, stated that TikTok Indonesia will take firm action against content that violates Community Guidelines, including deleting accounts that commit violations.

Faris said, ahead of the election, TikTok continued to enforce strict regulations on election misinformation and operations aimed at spreading influence.

"To realize this commitment, we are working with a number of institutions and organizations that focus on maintaining and monitoring the implementation of democracy and elections in Indonesia, including the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI), the General Election Supervisory Body of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu RI), the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem), and the Indonesian Anti-Slander Society (MAFINDO)," he said in a written statement, Friday, December 5.

Faris also said that TikTok had implemented special rules for Government, Political, and Political Party accounts (Government, Politician and Political Party Accounts/GPPPA). TikTok prohibits these accounts from promoting political campaigns through advertising features on its platform. A number of TikTok features will also be limited, including access to TikTok monetization features such as golf and tips.

Even so, Faris explained that TikTok does not prohibit GPPPA accounts from uploading content for public purposes or public counseling. The condition is, Faris emphasized that related GPPPA accounts are required to cooperate or coordinate with TikTok representatives.

"In terms of [political] advertising, we indeed prohibit it. But if the content as long as it does not violate community guidelines, please," concluded Faris. In order to uphold the integrity of the 2024 General Election, TikTok also explained that the platform is taking action to prevent the spread of misinformation that can have a negative impact on public opinion during election campaigns, such as upholding Community Guidelines on election misinformation, as well as collaborating with independent fact checking partners such as Agence France- Presse (AFP), MAFINDO, and PERLUDEM to review, verify, verify, and report potentially misleading content. TikTok also provides users and the general public with access to credible and authoritative information about the 2024 Election through the 2024 Election Guideline Center.

Based on the official information received, here's how TikTok maintains election integrity on its platform:

1. Remove violating content. Proactively TikTok will remove harmful content and contain misinformation related to civil proceedings and general elections. Anyone can report content in the app by pressing the flag icon or'report'.

2. Provide reliable sources of information. Through the 2024 Election Guideline Center and content tagging, TikTok increases trusted sources so that community members are resilient to efforts to spread misinformation, disinformation and hoaxes.

3. Cooperate with local fact inspectors. TikTok cooperates with organizations such as the Indonesian Anti-Slander Society (MAFINDO), the Association for Elections and Democracy (PERLUDEM), and the Indonesian Agence-France Presse (AFP). This initiative also reinforces TikTok's commitment to fighting the spread of misinformation on the platform to provide a secure and positive digital space for all its users.
